As the Günther-Klotz-Anlage transforms back into Southern Germany’s largest festival grounds on the last weekend of July, digital civic engagement will be part of the action. On Sunday, July 26, 2026, OK Lab Karlsruhe will be present in the Children and Culture area of DAS FEST. Featuring hands-on sensors, interactive projects, and an exciting presentation on the Climate Stage (KlimaPodium), we will demonstrate how “dry” data can become vibrant urban design.
In the heart of the Children and Culture area, as part of the Climate Academy, we will set up our booth on Sunday. Everything here revolves around one question: How can we better understand and design our city more sustainably using digital tools?
Visitors can expect a diverse program:
Around noon (exact time to be announced), things get practical on the Climate Stage (KlimaPodium). Under the title “Data Detectives on a Sensor Safari: What Weather Data Reveals About Your Neighborhood," we will provide exclusive insights into Karlsruhe’s real-time sensor network, “Sensor-City.”
True to the motto “The city belongs to you – and so does its data!", we will show you what the microclimate in your own neighborhood looks like and how this data helps make Karlsruhe smarter and more livable. Bring your questions and discover new perspectives on your district!
OK Lab Karlsruhe (also known as Code for KA) is a group of volunteer developers, designers, and data-enthusiastic citizens. As part of the nationwide Code for Germany network under the umbrella of the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany (OKF), we advocate for Open Knowledge, transparency, and a modern, digital municipal administration. To achieve this, we work closely with the City of Karlsruhe, local initiatives, and the public.
We are the citizens who look at the transparency portal and think: What can we do with this data? Our goal is to apply technical know-how for social and ecological objectives in our hometown.
Come by, get informed, and become part of our community! We look forward to exciting conversations.
